Yellow Pages Use Spans Many Generations!

Look what I can find in the Yellow Pages

Look what I found in the Yellow Pages!

It was a typical Sunday night dinner at my parent’s house this past weekend. My niece & nephew were playing while we finished eating dinner. As I was sitting at the dining room table, I see my five-year old nephew carrying 3 different Yellow Pages  directories. He gave one of the books to his three-year old sister and the thinner book to his grandpa. Since he started learning how to count and learn his numbers, my nephew has always enjoyed flipping through the book and counting the “large” numbers on each page. The kids gathered on Grandpa’s lap with their perspective Yellow Pages directories. They each took turns creating their own imaginary pictures and stories within the books. Talk about imagination!

Since I am a bit biased with working in the Yellow Pages industry, I told my sister to snap a picture.  I thought that this would be a great story of Yellow Pages usage spanning multiple generations! Who knows if my niece & nephew will use the yellow pages as they get older, but for this moment in time, they enjoyed looking at the book and creating their own stories with their grandfather.

Linkmedia 360 Attends Inside Self Storage World Expo

Wow! It seems like I was just enjoying my Cinnabon/Coffee breakfast (thank you CLE Hopkins Airport) waiting to board my flight for the Inside Self Storage World Expo.  The show is over and I’m back home already!  Man, time flies I’m telling you.

The Inside Self Storage Show was a hit! This is the storage industry’s leading conference, trade show and educational event for self-storage facility owners, managers, developers, investors and suppliers.   Dave Wolf and I got to visit with some current clients, meet some new ones and make new contacts as well.  There was something for everyone at this conference. ISS provided a great platform for networking in addition to learning more in the areas of facility marketing, day-to-day operations and management, legal/insurance and construction/development.   There were 38 seminars, 4 workshops and endless opportunities to network and learn about the storage industry.

We displayed a QR code at our booth so stay tuned to learn more about the winner!  This show’s “buzz word” was definitely Social Media!  Everyone is realizing that they need to jump on the band wagon and we can help.  Thanks everyone for stopping by.  When we weren’t chatting away at our booth, I did try to capture some pictures on the Vegas strip.   Enjoy the slideshow!  Time for me to make those follow-up calls!

Mobile is the Future & the Present. Are you Mobile Friendly? Webinar Recap

Linkmedia 360 hosted the latest in a series of free informational webinars on Thursday, February 23, 2012 entitled “Mobile is the Future & the Present. Are You Mobile Friendly?” Our search guru, Mike Ostrom, and webinar and social media coordinator, Debbie Lamb, were the presenters for this very informative and timely webinar. Mobile and smartphone usage has been exploding over the past few years. According to Google, as of December 2011, 38% of the US owns some type of smartphone! This is projected to increase to over 50% by 2014! With the increase of smartphone usage, mobile advertising has really taken off and according to emarketer, $2.6 Billion could be spent on mobile advertising including mobile search and mobile display. There are so many questions to ask before starting a mobile advertising campaign for your business. During the webinar, Mike and Debbie discussed if it is worthwhile to have a mobile marketing campaign, does mobile advertising deliver a stronger ROI than a regular Pay-Per-Click program and should you get a mobile landing page to go along with your mobile campaign. Mobile advertising has become the “new frontier” for marketers. Is your business ready to be mobile friendly?

Thanks again to Mike Ostrom and Debbie Lamb for a great presentation! Our next webinar, in April, will discuss the current trends in Social Media including Pinterest, Google + and paid advertising on Facebook and Twitter.

Keep an eye out on our blog and our Facebook, Twitter and Google + pages in the next month for more information and an invitation!

The Ever Changing World of Yellow Pages

Dave Wolf and Betty Brown from Linkmedia 360 were featured in an article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Sunday, February 12, 2012.  This article focused on the changing world of the White and Yellow Pages. There have been many developments in the Yellow Pages industry in the past 10 years affecting local businesses, advertising agencies and the publishers. However, print Yellow Pages still has strong usage. In fact, in a recent study by Burke Inc., 78% of consumers found a local business from using the white and yellow pages. This percentage is slightly above the 76% of consumers who find information about a local business from search engines. Nearly 70% of the respondents in the study were inclined to contact the business after seeing the advertising in the yellow pages!

As court battles continue in Seattle and San Francisco about the Yellow Pages, The Local Search Association  has developed an opt-out site to let consumers make their own decision about having their local Yellow Pages directories delivered to their homes. The site will allow you to register to have delivery of the yellow pages discontinued at your home.  The public utilities commissions in 20 states have approved opt-in for consumers for white pages. ATT is sponsoring a white and yellow pages opt-in site, due to the cancellation of printing of residential white pages.

It is important to remember that having a mix of media is the key component to helping to promote a company’s products and services. Linkmedia 360 continues to adapt to the changing world of the directional marketing industry by offering a wide variety of services from online listing management, website design, search engine marketing, mobile, social media and reputation management.

Yellow Pages Publishers Help out our Military Heroes

Our military are everyday heroes as they protect and serve our country on a daily basis. But, after their service, military men and woman can suffer many hardships. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate amoung military veterans is nearly double the national average. These statistics are expected to get worse as troops return home from active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. In November, 2011 a group of independent Yellow Pages publishers launched a job initiative to help returning military veterans. The American Hometown Heroes initiative will provide professional marketing advice and consultation to any returning veteran who would like to start a new business in their hometown. These services are free! The program includes marketing advice as well as a free one year advertising program in their local online and print Yellow Pages. This program establishes a foothold for these new business entrepreneurs in their communities, which in turn helps to drive our economy. Military veterans sign up to get your free marketing assistance today!

Association of Directory Publishers, ADP, is one of the many sponsors of the program. Some of the independent publishers that are taking part in this program are: DMI, Yellowbook, Names and Numbers  and Zip Local to just name a few of the publishers covering 49 states and over 40,000 communities in the United States. There are also celebrity supporters who include Bo Derek, John Corbett, Ann Margaret and Dyan Cannon.
